What Is A Tech Virtual Assistant?
Let’s go over what a virtual assistant is first. A virtual assistant is a self-employed independent contractor who works remotely supporting a variety of different business owners. You do not need to have a solely online business to utilize a virtual assistant. Any business owner can hire a virtual assistant which can greatly reduce the cost of operating expenses (but that’s for another blog post!).
More specifically, a tech virtual assistant is a virtual assistant who specializes in tech! A tech virtual assistant primarily focuses on supporting the backend of your business, making sure all the technology you use is running smoothly and efficiently. A lot of tech virtual assistants specialize in two or three specific platforms because, frankly, it’s impossible to know every system out there. However, most of us have an amazing ability to quickly grasp new business systems and learn them with ease.
Keep in mind that most tech virtual assistants do not provide services such as copywriting, bookkeeping, or social media management. So let’s talk about five services that a tech virtual assistant would provide.
1. Set Up Your Email Marketing System
Email marketing is a marketing technique where you send mass emails to subscribers (people who have signed up for your email list because they are interested in hearing more about you and the services you offer) on a consistent basis. It’s a powerful way to communicate authentically with your audience, drive sales, and develop a community surrounding your brand.
Tech virtual assistants can help you set up these email marketing platforms and learn how to manage them. Or, they can manage the platform for you entirely! Instead of writing out an email, going into your email marketing provider, and setting it up yourself, you can simply send over the copywriting to your tech virtual assistant where they can set it up for you and schedule it to be sent out at a specific time. Pretty neat, huh?
Email marketing providers can be incredibly robust and difficult to learn. It’s not simply creating an account and emailing people. You need to create segments, a tagging system, build email campaigns, automations, and figure out a way to invite people on your list (see create a funnel below!). A tech virtual assistant can do all of this for you!
2. Build Your Online Course
Everyone wants to build an online course these days, but they don’t realize the amount of effort it takes. You need to create your curriculum, film videos, create graphics, build a sales page, set up your course platform, and sometimes build an entirely new website. Not to mention, there are so many course platforms to choose from. It can be very difficult to know where to begin!
Tech virtual assistants can help you build a sales page, set up your course platform (including all of the modules, lessons, uploading videos and worksheets), design worksheets (if they are design savvy – not all do design), set up webinars, and support your upcoming launch.
You can utilize different types of service providers such as social media managers or digital marketers to help drive traffic to your course, but a tech virtual assistant will ensure that all of your systems are working flawlessly to give each customer the best experience.
3. Create A Marketing Funnel
Remember when I said a tech virtual assistant can help you build a sales funnel?
Going back to email marketing… you need a way to get people onto your email list. One of the best ways to do this is to create a lead magnet that provides valuable content to your target audience. Some tech virtual assistants can help you design and build a lead magnet (Canva is a great tool for this!) AND connect it to your website as an embedded form or a pop-up. They will also make sure that users get the correct email sequence(s) and lead magnet in their inbox. Always make sure your tech virtual assistant is testing after every funnel is completed… then have him/her test again, just to be sure!
Experienced tech virtual assistants can also help you build more complicated funnels (ones that involve $$$) in different types of systems such as ClickFunnels, LeadPages, WordPress, and much more.
4. Set Up New Systems
Most tech virtual assistants have a superpower where we can hop into almost any system and learn it pretty easily. One of the biggest reasons I went into tech is because it all came so naturally to me!
Having the correct systems in place will help you work smarter and more efficiently in your online business. Depending on their skillset, tech virtual assistants will audit your current processes and systems, then help you develop a strategic plan to implement new processes moving forward.
They can introduce and train you on simple systems such as Google Workspace, Acuity, or LastPass. More experienced tech virtual assistants can help you set up bigger systems, such as Dubsado or ClickUp.
After helping you set up your new systems, most will offer options for additional support as you get adjusted, so you’re not left hanging. 🙂
5. Manage Your Website
Whether you have a website on WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace, you should be regularly updating your website with fresh and enticing content. If you have WordPress, you need to make sure you’re going in weekly and updating plugins, themes, core files, completing security checks, and removing unnecessary spam comments.
The majority of tech virtual assistants know how to work in the top website platforms I listed above. We can complete tasks such as adding new blog posts, image placement, updating copywriting, monitoring performance and analytics, support eCommerce, and improve Search Engine Optimization so you can rank higher on Google.
Some tech virtual assistants can build new landing pages or design entire websites. It all depends on their specific skillset!
And there you have it! As you can see, a tech virtual assistant can help you do all of these things and it doesn’t stop there.
Now, let’s face it: working on tech is most likely not what you went into business for. Even if you’re comfortable with tech, is it really the best use of your time? If you’re interested in hiring a tech VA, click here to check out my services page and schedule your free discovery call.
